I plan to do a clockwise route from the high car park SE of Moel Arthur (grid 147658/postcode CH7 5NZ). With the settled weather it is a great route for looking across Vale of Ruthin and the autumn colours and then the nicely direct, high ridge walk on the way back.

Descend initially along road to west to pick up bridleway along western flanks of ridge, (winding northwards) picking up a spur past Fron-dyffryn. This takes us down and across the road below Penycloddiau onto the continuing traverse path, we used to call ‘the Balcony route’ to the bwlch north of Penycloddiau at Grid 121689.

From here the route turns us SE and follows the ridge across Penycloddiau, through the bwlch and up and over Moel Arthur to the car(s). Total 7 miles. I suggest meeting up for a 10:00am start. The usual Clwyds conditions, great tracks and the odd bit of mud. Company would be lovely!

Cheers Mike
