This varied walk starts at the Nelson Pit Visitor Centre and goes across the canal and up to Lyme Park (scene of Mr Darcy’s TV swim) to pick up the Gritstone Trail, which we follow up to the Bow Stones and along the ridge to Sponds Hill, our high point at 1,355 feet. If conditions are good this commands wide views SE to Shining Tor and W across Cheshire. We then double back slightly to take in the smaller summit of Dale Top before descending back to return go back through Lyme Park’s southern woodland to rejoin our outward route and head back to the start point. The walk is on generally good paths with the odd muddy and boggy sections, it’s about 8.75/9 miles measured on the map.
