The area and details of the meet
We will meet in the car park on the edge of Wilderswood, NE of Horwich (Just North of Bolton at GR-652124) at 10:30. The walk will take us up Winter Hill by a scenic detour, then across to Rivington Pike and down through the derelict landscaped gardens of Rivington Hall. We will then head down to the banks of the reservoir for some refreshments, a quick look at Liverpool castle (!!) before returning to the cars. Total distance about 9 miles.
Please bring a packed lunch, good walking boots and waterproofs and let me know if you are planning to join us.
The photo shows Lord Lever's castle folly, a scale replica of the ruins of the original Liverpool castle, which was built in Rivington starting in 1912
